Signs it’s Time to Replace Your Windows and Doors

4/4/2020

Here in the central highlands of Arizona, we homeowners have unique requirements for our windows and doors. We’re not as hot as the Phoenix valley, yet the sun’s high UV intensity still wreaks havoc on our homes. We don’t get as much snow and cold as the highest elevations, but it gets cold. These massive temperature swings will cause window and door seals to expand and contract – which causes problems over time. So, how do you know when it’s time to replace your windows or doors? We put together a guide to help you determine if replacing your windows and doors should be at the top of your remodeling project list.

Signs it’s Time to Replace Your Windows and Doors

  • Difficult opening, closing or locking the window or door.
  • Drafts can be felt coming in, even when your windows or doors are closed.
  • There is condensation or fogging between the layers of glass.
  • The frames are soft, chipped, or water-damaged on or around the window or doors.
  • The style is outdated and doesn’t blend well with the rest of your home.
  • Cleaning has become a major hassle.
  • Replacement parts are hard to find or have been discontinued.
  • You hear a lot of outside noise when inside your home.
  • You want to reduce your high energy bill.

Choosing the right windows and doors for your next remodel project is an important process, and can be difficult. As homeowners ourselves, we understand how overwhelming and confusing the process can be. This is why we created a simple process that makes selecting your new windows & doors as easy as possible.

7 Simple Steps to Arizona Window and Door Shopping

  1. Gather inspiration. If you haven't already done this step, start here.
  2. Decide what matters. Determine which features matter most to you such as energy-efficiency ratings, best window frame material, and safety features, so you can narrow down your selection.
  3. Do your research. Visit showrooms or home improvement stores to experience the look, feel, and different features of window and door styles up close.
  4.  Set a budget. Now that you’ve narrowed down your selection, you can set a realistic budget.
  5. Work with an expert. Whether you DIY the project or contract it out, it helps to talk with an expert to understand the process better. We do in-home consults here at Triple E where we’ll take measurements, discuss all available options, and answer any questions you have to ensure that you’ll get the right products for you. No more, and no less.
  6. Installation day. Triple E installation day is a breeze. Our no-mess, no-guess, hassle-free install means our crew will leave their work area cleaner than they found it. They’ll also haul away your old windows and doors for your convenience.
  7. Enjoy the view. Once our installers are gone, it's time to relax and appreciate the long-awaited benefits of your new windows.

I loved that you mentioned having difficulties when opening a door will be a sign that you need to replace it. My husband and I are thinking about how to fix a door in our house that looks damaged, and we are looking for advice. I will let him know about your recommendations to choose the right professional to help us with that door.

Great tip about installation days are a breeze. I need to get a contractor to replace the living room window. My window was broken by my kid playing baseball in the house.

It's good to know that feeling drafts is a bad sign. I have been feeling a draft coming in through my windows. I'll have to look into getting new ones installed as soon as possible.

I found it helpful when you mentioned that it is a good idea to replace the windows in your home if you can feel a draft coming through them. The kitchen in my home has been feeling much colder lately, and I think that there is a leak coming from one of the windows. It might be a good idea for me to replace all of the windows in the kitchen at the same time so that I won't have to worry about the others breaking.

I found it interesting when you said it doesn't have to be a stressful and perplexing procedure to replace your windows and doors. I used to think differently about it not until you explained it briefly and it really got my attention. What you said about window installation was really interesting to me.

Thank you for explaining that if you're having problems opening or closing your windows, it could be time to replace them. I've been thinking that all of our windows just don't open, but it appears that they're all stuck. We'll be sure to get those replaced as soon as we can.

I never knew that DIY can be dangerous if you are not knowledgeable. Our window got cracked glass and my wife asked if I have any idea what is the best replacement to consider. I wanted to thank you for your explanation about how consulting a trusted window replacement service can help figure out the best replacement option for us and I'll be sure to consult them.

I was captured when you discussed that if the style of your window is outdated, it must be replaced. That's exactly my point why I want my windows to be replaced. I better look for a contractor experienced in window replacement to make sure it blends well with my aesthetic.

It helped when you shared that fogging inside the layers of glass needs replacement. I think we need to replace our windows now since they have lots of damage. I'll make sure to hire a contractor that can install the new windows properly.

Thanks for mentioning how you should replace a window if it is difficult to open or close. There is a window in my grandparents' house that will not close all the way no matter what. I will suggest that they have that window replaced professionally to hopefully save energy.

Thanks for pointing out that any condensation or fogging in the windows or doors would mean that it needs to be replaced. I noticed this issue with the one in the kitchen when I was cooking earlier. I should get it checked by a professional first to know if I already need window replacement services after living here for a decade.

Thanks for mentioning that you should replace some windows if there is condensation in between the layers of glass. My husband and I are thinking about getting our windows replaced sometime this month. We have had the same windows for 20 years, so we want to get new ones.

You caught my attention when you stated that getting replacement windows can help you replace your energy bill. Lately, I've noticed that our bills have been getting astronomically high, and it's only about to get worse when winter arrives. I'll make sure we prepare for this by having a window expert get us some replacements.

I'm glad that you talked that your service provider could provide different services that some residents could need. After moving to our current area, our window got cracked glass, and my wife asked if I had any idea what would be the best replacement that could provide an efficient and elegant function to consider. I appreciate this informative article, I'll be sure to tell her that consulting a trusted window replacement service can help us figure out the best replacement option for us.

I like what you said about how some replacement parts might have been discontinued. I need to get a contractor to replace all of my living room windows. Some are shattered from the kids playing in the house.

I appreciate when you said that it is best to hire home window replacement services instead to understand the process better. I think it is best to let the experts work on our home, because we have no experience in this aspect. We just need those parts replaced because they might be the cause why our HVAC system is working too hard which leads to increased bills.

It is good to know that we can choose a window base on its energy-efficiency ratings. My mother wants to add plantation shutters to our windows. I should advise her to choose the ones that fit our design.
