Start Your Window Replacement Process with a Little Inspiration
First, it is helpful to do a bit of inspirational research to better understand what you like and don’t like. Here we’ve put together some inspiration and design tips for window replacements to get you started.

Begin the Research Process
Once you're inspired, it's time to begin the research process. This step is critical as it ensures you select the right windows for your home. Pella has a wide variety of window styles and materials to choose from and one of the best product warranties on the market. As you begin your research, familiarize yourself with common window terms, such as:
  • Sash: This is the framework that sits inside the frame and holds the glass. It can be operable or stationary.
  • Single Hung: Has one operable sash.
  • Double Hung: Also commonly known as double sash window, it has two operable sashes that can slide up and down.
  • Single Pane: Has one single layer of glass.
  • Double Pane: Also known as double-glazed or dual-paned, it has two glass panes. Some may be insulated with argon gas for better insulation and some may not.
  • Triple Pane: Has three sheets of glass with argon gas between each layer.
  • Mullion: These are the vertical pieces of wood separating the panes of glass.
  • Grille: Mainly used for aesthetics these strips of metal, vinyl or wood are placed between the window panes to visually separate the glass into window panes.

In addition to terminology, it's beneficial to understand your window installation options. There are two primary installation options:
  • Full-Frame Replacement:  This involves removing the entire window, including the frame and sashes before installing the new window.
  • Pocket Replacement:  This involves replacing only the window sash and leaving the existing frame in place.

The installation option you choose will depend on several factors, including the age and condition of your current windows, your budget, and your preferences. We recommend talking to a Pella Certified Window Contractor about which installation method would be best for your window replacement project.

Now it's time to select the replacement windows material to fit your lifestyle. Choosing the right window frame material ensures optimal performance and longevity. Here are three popular materials and their benefits:
  • Wood: Offers low maintenance, durability, energy efficiency, and beauty.
  • Fiberglass: Resists warping, dents, and rot. This material requires minimal maintenance, performs reliably year-round, and withstands extreme weather and UV rays. It’s a favorite for homes in Northern Arizona.
  • Vinyl: Withstands weathering effects while providing energy efficiency and easy care. Vinyl designs are strong and durable, preventing sagging, warping, and bowing over time.

Set Your Window Replacement Budget
Once you've completed your research and determined the type of window you prefer, it's time to set your window replacement budget. Window prices vary depending on the material, size, and style you choose. While it may be tempting to choose the most affordable option, keep in mind that quality windows are an investment in your home. Higher quality windows may cost more upfront but can save you money in the long run, on energy bills and maintenance costs.

Schedule Your In-Home Consultation
After you've set your window replacement budget, it's time to schedule an in-home consultation with a Pella Certified Contractor. During this consultation, a contractor will assess your current windows and provide recommendations for the best replacement windows for your area. They will also provide a quote for your new windows, the installation, and any additional services needed.

Choosing the right windows and doors doesn’t have to be complicated. By staying informed about the latest trends, materials, and installation methods, you’ll be well-equipped to make decisions that enhance your home’s comfort, beauty, and value. At Triple E Construction, we’re here to guide you every step of the way, ensuring a stress-free process and exceptional results. Ready to get started?
